another one in the series of great, great movies, that never make it to the swiss movie-theaters.
thank god for the dvd …
24 hour party people tells the story of the manchester music scene from the late 70’s through to the 80’s and 90’s. joy division, a certain ratio, new order, the happy mondays. new wave, rave, acid house. the hacienda, the greatest dance club, that never made any money. and especially impressive: the life and death of ian curtis, singer of joy divison. tony willson calls him “music’s equivalent to che guevara”. all told in a semi-documentary style with cameo appearances by the original stars. a trainspotters paradise! but not only, i think… oh, and it’s by michael winterbottom!
