tough handsome spiderclick it bigger

sad sad news. the spider that had decided to set up web on our car is no more…
and by its own damn fault! it had gotten too damn cocky…
so today we mourn the loss of our good friend the daredevil spider…

but let me start from the beginning.
earlier this summer we noticed that a spider had built a huge spiderweb on our car. it was neatly attached to the rearview mirror and to various parts of the car door. driver side.
this in and off itself says something about how rarely we use our car and how very guilty we feel daily for even owning one…
but anyhow, we instantly fell in love with this spider; a very handsome fellow with stripes in various shades of brown.
of course we never took the spiderweb away, because we liked it and because we figured that it would be taken away naturally by our driving and/or the weather. but not so spider. spider was tough. spider persisted.

we did drive our car quite a few times, freeways included, and there were many harsh thunderstorms, even a few hailstorms.
and many times the spiderweb was all but gone … yet tough, handsome spider had somehow mangaged to hide inside the rearview mirror and the next day the web was rebuilt. what’s more, it seemed to be a good spot, because spider got fatter and fatter.

over time we built quite a nice little relationship. we even gave it a nickname: “spidy” and we always observed the status of the apparatus. the spiderweb got us quite a few wordless comments from people noticing it. but hey, spider was more important to us than some uptight citizens, who thought spiders dont belong on cars. so there…

this happy relationship went on for almost 3 months, to end in tragedy yesterday.
we went shopping with our car. while usually when we drove it went into its hiding spot for safty, to crawl back out later to fix the damage to the web, today it started to fix it while we were still driving. and it was raining too. so then, all of a sudden spidy was gone. he had gotten too cocky…

i guess we could make a little sign: spiderweb for rent on. but uhm…

  1. amen to that. and you are so right, spidy is prolly alive and kicking somewhere… but maybe you agree that for the story it worked better to mourn his death

  2. i actually still habitually look for spidy every time i get into my car. which these days, in the mountains, i do often… so it is quite the loss… sniffie
