today’s edition of nouvo.ch – a weekly tv-magazine about media, advertisment & technology – [= my favorite swiss tv show . every saturday 13:10 on tsr1] presents a team of swiss scientists, who take photos of old shellac and vinyl records and are working on a machine that can reproduce the audio from reading these photographs. it’s great because a great number of preservation and archival problems could be solved that way, but it is also a great example of analogue technology meeting digital. this is a collaborative effort between the swiss national sound archive in lugano, the engineer school in fribourg and the school of photography in vevey.
