blogger sued for comments left on his blog1 min read

“Blogger Aaron Wall of SEO Book is being sued for $10,000 over comments left on his blog by persons unknown.”
[via online.guardian: notice you have been sued]

oh mang, if this goes through it will create quite a precedent in the US. and probably in other countries as well. eventually.

and what a shitty question it is: are we to be held responsible for information that people post in comments our blogs?

i have recently wondered about this question myself after two people have posted habbo hotel hacks on my blog. so far i have decided to leave them, because they do not offend my inofficial “comment policy”. generally i only delete comments that contain racist, misogynist, homophobic slander. and spam. but i do have my doubts in this situation.

what are people’s thoughts? … «

  1. It’s just scare tactics: “Traffic Power” is a somewhat questionable SEO and they’re trying to shut down criticism by threatening a lawsuit. Most people will give in at that stage simply because hiring a lawyer to contest even the most frivolous lawsuit is too expensive. That’s what sucks about it :-(.

And yes, we ARE responsible for comments made in our blogs. You can bet your pretty little butt on it. As soon as you read the comments, you know what’s in them, and that makes you responsible. It’s not the same thing as an internet provider that is only providing access without monitoring the traffic.
