[stuff what got stuck in my browser tabs this last week or so]

swissness

[TalentScreen] – this sounds like a cool challenge for young aspiring swiss filmmakers, you get zero budget and 48 hours to make a thematic short film. it all happened this past week. 90+ people did deliver a film to the awfully lame theme “putzen und lächeln” = cleaning and smiling. the winners, announced yesterday, made an animation that is not half bad, eventho their website looks so shitty that you don’t think they could produce anything half decent. but then again, they’re from lucerne…

logistepag – i refuse to link to these guys from my blog. logistep is a swiss firm from höri, zh that offers anti-piracy services. they pride themselves as a “full-service provider” so not only do they track and archive all p2p activity, but they also take on the task of prosecuting the offenders. the sad thing is, that these guys take this task on themselves, without an official mandate, which is highly cynical and means they see an emerging market in it. rumor has it that this fall 20 000 germans will get charged for p2p offenses and that the data was provided by logistep. i can’t help it, but only in switzerland is such a company possible. the sharks are coming.
“Kontinuierliche Überwachung der Foren, Communities und der Chat räume, ermöglicht es uns immer up-to-date zu sein. Dadurch erhalten wir einen wichtigen Einblick in die Vorgänge der FTP Szene.” [here’s an article @ heise.de, in german]

lügner: es sich de – lügner, swiss rapper from zureich, has made a very impressive animated video that should be fun to watch even for people who don’t speak swissgerman. in fact, especially for those. unless you’re epileptic.

carsten nicolai: syn chron review – excellent review by villoe huszai of a not sooo excellent mediaart piece shown in bern these days at the biennale-bern.

worldness

creativecommons support drive – so far creativecommons was happily funded by support from generous fundations, but “to maintain our nonprofit status, the IRS says we must meet a “public support test” […]”. oh, the joys of bureaucracy. i don’t think i need to explain how very supportworthy CC is…

F.R.U.I.T. – ” FRUIT takes up the challenge of elevating the ecological knowledge of consumers and encouraging a way of life that is friendly to the environment. We want consumers to be conscious of the entire life of a product, from production to utilization, and not just what they see in the stores. Consumers must be aware that every phase of a product’s life influences the environment and ourselves.” – the amy franceschini graphics alone make this one worth a visit. [via we-make-money]

dubya bush even more nutty than we thought? – “President Bush said to all of us: ‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, “George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.” And I did, and then God would tell me, “George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …” And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, “Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.” And by God I’m gonna do it.'”

TWiT– and speaking of which, listening to the latest TWiT podcast confused me to no end. here you have relaxed, cool, geek chatter with among others cory doctorow as a guest, and suddenly, out of the [red-white-and-] blue the presenter falls into überpatriotic god talk, by god we are with our troops in iraq. sneaky.

marc eckos’ getting up – the next must-play videogame? for me it sure is… you get to play a graffiti artists early 80’s in new york.

socks 3 – amazing mock spooky anim. i’m a fan. beware of whiny voices and dark fires. [via 4rthur]

my latest novel learning lego – great band from glasgow with a silly tv interface, that really lets you zap the crap.

user content – the real deal? – is where you can hear alfie dennen [wna] speak for the hefty entry fee of 70 quid. if you are so inclined…
