“hey ihre erlauchtheit missie w

i hope you’ll spend a lovely pentecoast – or however one spells that – in flattened … post-anti-g8 near that lake, ou il y avais le feu au lac.
meme si normalement il y a pas le feu au lac.

i am going through a moment of frustration here.
maybe you could help me with this?
i notice that very few people read/comment my blog and now the same thing is happening @ fotolog.net.
i get very few comments.
i don’t think i am doing a bad job, neither blogging nor fotologging.
but somehow there is very little response and that can get frustrating … [why?]
then i look around and i see blogs or fotologs, where girls get 100’s of comments in their silly, badly written stuff.
and that’s right: it is usually girls.
recently i found this blog by a guy called: “if i had tits you would read this”. [can’t find the blog anymore …]
exactly my feeling.

but since it is never my style to feel sorry for myself for longer periods of time – my positive confirmation for today: i am not a victim – my question to you :
maybe there is something i should change, something i could do better, something that does not work.

do you have any suggestions?

  1. (what follows is a confused-minded, long, incoherent answer)

i totally agree with you on the tits question.

the phenomenon of the popularity of girls’ blogs is, however, a result of their education, i think.
at the age of 6 i already got my first “Alle Meine Freunde”-book and at the age of 10 i had already 12 full 150-page books signed.

i realized that female blogging works in similar ways. i get the feeling that most girls commenting in my deadjournal feel sort of obliged to. whereas boys usually comment when they feel like it (… or, when there’s a lot of nudeness on a picture).

another reason why live-/deadjournal users get so many (mostly not very constructive(!) comments) is the automatic-comment-alert-system – i.e. when a person comments in your journal (or you comment to a comment etc.) you get notified via email. plus, there’s special features like birthday reminders for your friends-list et al.
functions like this can keep a “discussion” going up to 100 comments.

i dunno how BLOGGER or other systems work, but i guess only the author gets comments-notifications. so, after readers left one comment, they wouldn’t really bother to check back.

most lj/dj users i know hardly ever check back “free” blogs, since they’re sort of “out of the community”.
apart from my deadjournal friends’ blogs i only check back your blog, diepunyhumans, william gibson’s blog, pigsell, a-u-t-o-m-a-t-i-c-t-a-x-i-s-t-o-p and the shanmonster page.
the only ones i ever commented in are yours and diepunyhumans (only when there’s something on karol or when i have to defend on of my gasmask-pix.)

most of the above blogs either disabled commenting due to insulting comments (warren ellis of diepunyhumans), due to lack of comments (william gibson – i mean, come on! t.h.e. cyberpunk author doesn’t get any comments!), due to obscene comments (shanmonster. see? even girls’ blogs aren’t always that much fun).

ergo: your blog is just fine, dammit! i read it at least once a day.

keep it going! i’d rather have no comments at all, than the usual “geschleime” i get!
