[teh glorious interweb what got stuck in my camino tabs this past week]

the german world … of warcraft

EU Sunwell Event Progress – this website compares the progress of european WoW servers in the so-called sunwell event progress … you had to be there. in short, the whole server has to work together to progress a cause. why i link it: 26 of the top 30 servers are german servers. now as to why that is so, that could be quite an interesting topic for a game anthropologist comapring gaming culture on the various servers.

German Fans Craft Real Warcraft Armor – “A group of German World of Warcraft fans has put together a stunning recreation of the Paladin’s Tier 2 armor, aka the Judgement set. The group of professional craftsmen, known as BattleHeat, “spent several hundred hours” crafting the steel-and-leather armor”

The Myth of the Media Myth: Games and Non-Gamers – not written by a german, i think, but still noteworthy: “I’ve been outside. It’s overrrated. Traditionally Outside receives extremely high ratings by those who like to see others play it, and these people are in many cases comfortably ensconced Inside themselves.”

online video kills

How Do We Make Money on the Internet? – from the latest south park episode: “The boys create an Internet video they hope will end the strike.”

Shut Your F-ing Mouth, Laughing Baby! – “The Internet stars battle it out for theoretical dollars.”

The Clash London Calling Video – “London Calling video with MP3 overdub and some sync video edits.”

The Elephant Song – “Children’s music artist, Eric Herman, sings an incredibly cute song all about elephants… sort of… The video was created by his wife, Roseann, with the help of their 3 year-old daughter, Becca.”

DennisKnopf’s Videos – “German rapper and net artist Dennis Knopf’s channel on YouTube, called Bootyclipse, collects fragments of videos where a girl who is going to shake her booty in front of a camera has not appeared in the frame yet, and looped these moments.” [via sexblo.gs]

NSFW!!! Me and My Girlfriend – “Video compiled of people glancing into the camera from their home made porn.” [via VVORK]

Honey Badger-The Most Fearless Animal on Earth – “Guinness Book of World Records have named this specie the most fearless animal on earth. Just watch this video to see why.”

Korean drummer takes the show – and the drummer goes wicked. or should i say schmaltzy.

schmooze and abuze

Awesome Light Graffiti Pictures – “Long Exposure pictures can get pretty awesome if you have the right ideas. One of the coolest ideas is to make sweet light graffiti with this camera option.”

Art Attack – “ZEVS is known, among other things, for his billboard “bombings,” in which he targets commercial images with a spray can and lets the paint drip where it may. A recent series, “Liquidated Logos,” takes the graffiti concept one step further, matching the paint to the original trademarks and allowing it to run”

Even Charles Manson Digs Creative Commons – “Good old Charles Manson of the Tate and LaBianca murders has done the same thing. His recent album, “One Mind” is licensed in a way that allows anyone to share it with others, remix it and use it for non-commercial uses.” somehow the pundits who usually salute anything CC were not that sure how to take this news.

Top names withdraw from relay as torch becomes beacon for protest – “Beijing’s plans for the London leg of the Olympic torch relay suffered a setback yesterday when it emerged that a number of torch-bearers, including the BBC’s most senior journalist, have abandoned plans to take part in Sunday’s event.”

R.E.M. Blatantly Co-Opts Us, Doesn’t Give Credit at Improv Everywhere – “The above R.E.M. YouTube video was posted to their official “remhq” channel this afternoon. It seems that R.E.M. (or more likely some marketing person at Warner Brothers) replicated our Grand Central “freeze” mission for the purpose of marketing their new album. If you look closely you can see they actually branded the event itself; a few of the frozen people are holding umbrellas that say “R.E.M.””

R.E.M. vs. Improv Everywhere = Copyfight Nonsense – “A bloggy brouhaha erupted Tuesday after R.E.M. posted a video called “The Big Still” that some called a rip-off of a famous Improv Everywhere stunt.”

University of Rochester Press Releases – “Researchers at the University of Rochester have digitally reproduced music in a file nearly 1,000 times smaller than a regular MP3 file.”

The Serif – “FontFont have announced that they are to release Helvetica Serif” rather geeky april fools.

We heart it – “We Heart It is a social bookmarking tool for images and videos.”

Twitter / dopeboyfresh – a rather questionable example of twitter usage: “shauna’s coming over. gonna break out the (wink wink) jimmy hats.”

Arse Elektronika 2007 – “Taking up where the successful conference in autumn 2007 left off, this year’s Arse Elektronika stands under the motto “future” — and the ways in which the present sees itself reflected in it.”

Joshua Allen Harris’ Inflatable Sculptures – simply brilliant.

Der Unternehmer, ein Admiral und ein «Schweizer Fräulein» – “Reale und virtuelle Begegnungen mit drei Schweizer Bloggern”

sarkosy – almost endearing, i did say almost.
