dear china

dear china,

trying to impress us, aye? nice try, but we still don’t like you.

yours truely, …

yes, ok, that opening party was mildly impressive. yet it felt like china was trying to buy favors. i felt bad for them. they’d spent millions on this gigantic multimedia show. but it also seemed like a blatant attempt to wash over the real issues that still exist. what about human rights? censorship? tibet? impending ecological disaster? watching these olympics will always be tainted by these unsolved problems.

i was reminded of my choleric grandad, who would buy us expensive gifts and serve caviar and saumon fumee when we visited. that impressed me till i was about 9… maybe.
