home made fruit fly trap (edited)1 min read

just saw this at my friend andreas house:

– in a glass jar mix 1/4 vinegar with 3/4 orange juice – apparently fruit flies like acidic stuff
– add a few drops of dish washing liquid – this changes the way the surface of the juice/vinegar behaves and makes them drown
– cover the glass with plastic wrap, tighten the edges to create a smoothe surface, poke 4 or 5 small holes in the surface

watch and enjoy… well, who has time for that. but you could…

i’ll keep you posted if this works. at the moment the fruit flies seem intrigued, but too shy, since f. is cooking and moving about in the kitchen too much… i searched the internet and some people just place some fruit in a jar and then do the plastic wrap thing, since it seems they can’t get out once they flew in.

edit: it works! the fruit flies are currently taking numbers in the cue to go in. and die a horrible death in vinegary OJ, muhahahahaha.
