pieceoBabbel chuck palahniuk

woooheeeeeee.
finally!
the new book by chuck palahniuk lullayby got here!
i had pre-ordered it at the online bookseller named after a female warrior figure from greek mythology. yeah that one…
now, if someone would force me to name one favorite writer, i would easily and without a moments hesitation say: chuck palahniuk. and since such a task is no struggle at all for me, i’ ll even venture a list of my favorite books by this author (and update it after having read lullaby!):

let me first say: his books are all great!
having said this… here goes the list:

1. fight club - a delirious, stream-of-conciousness tale standing in a league of it’s own.
2. survivor - the themes of religious sects and projection of power onto religious leaders are placed into the most final setting imaginable.
2. choke - check out the hilarious scams the main-character comes up with, to raise money in order to be able to pay his sick mother’s hospital bills.
2. invisible monsters - this story weaves and weaves to finally come around and surprise deeply.

i know, it’s a cop-out to name three books in 2nd place. but i did list them according to my prefrences…
meanwhile, i send my greatest respect to the mechanic/writer in portland, oregon.

pieceoBabbel like the bug inside the windshield

there are these days where you just feel like the bug inside the window, who keeps trying to fly outside, but keeps hitting the window, untill he or she (is a bug a she?) knocks her/himself out….

its like this line from this song i liked, when i heard it in it’s countryversion, but got all jaded about, when i found out it was by the dire straits:
sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug…

well today i am a the bug,
on the inside,
wanting out,
and just not smart enough to notice the open window just a little to the side

pieceoBabbel snipplets 1

simpson rerun on the tellie: homer is trying to lose weight. on the motivational tape he uses towards that end one of the lines goes like this: with the excess bodyfat of all americans the grand canyon could easily get filled..

blick (#1 swiss yellow press) headline: trotz millionen - depressionen (despite millions - depression, but of course in german this rhymes ;-)) the talk is of robbie williams, who apparently suffers despite being a star; or does he suffer because of being one?
at any rate “i’ ll sit at home with a box of chocolates watching football and then go to bed early…”
oh the glamorous life! mabe it’s time to start taking drugs again, robbie…

just ordered the 3 classic cult-pornfilms par excellence (according to some french porn-expert i just saw on the box): deep throat, behind the green door, and the devil in mrs. jones
gotta have your porn history up to code, don’t you agree???
click click click…
oh no… what did i just do????????? :red:

pieceoBolitix boomeritis

just read this review of ken wilber’s latest book. talking about the babyboomer generation (people born 1946 - 1960) wilber claims, that they have two distinguishing main characteristics:
pluralism and narcissism.
on one hand they are the first generation, who broke with traditions on a large scale and moved to a postmodern, multicultural, pluralistic understanding of the world.
but on the other hand they are extremly narcissistic, meaning extremly egocentric and garnered with a nobody-tells-me-what-to-do attitude.
sound familiar?

this of course is quite a confusing mixture: the non-conformist approch to not wanting change let affect myself. change gets demanded in the outside world, but as soon as it touches my personality change gets blocked.
was it their sheer numbers, which pushed the babyboomers into having to be superficially flexible, while remaining completely stubbornly self-absorbed at a deeper level? simply a survival strategy?
nevertheless the babyboomers are everywhere nowadays. after all they adopted the smart tactics of the long march through the institutions. our teachers, politicians and socialworkers all are babyboomers. authority-figures in birkenstocks! on the outside cool and understanding, yet still authority figures abusing their power.
we, the generations, who came after the babyboomers, had no other chance than to escape into anger (punks), irony (generation x), or lifestyle commodity (generation y)….

pieceoBabbel post-ayurveda-hot-oil-massage

oh la la.
today i had my first ayurvedic hot oil massage.
so please excuse me if i am a bit spaced out or something…
even mumbeling weird sanskrit words, maybe…
like uhm ohhhmmmmmm, dude
well, it was a great massage, but i have this question:
what is one supposed to do with all the oily residual muck afterwards…
??? namaste!
it’s like yer dripping with oil after the massage, smelly oil even, ommm namo baghavate shivaya, completely utterly obnoxiously smelly dripping oil all over even.
bloodclot!
you may be pleased to hear, that everything, that came within my approximative viscinity since then, now sports substantial oil stains and smells of basil essential oils. great huh. so guess what: wash day coming up!
like totally ohhhmmm, dude!

no but really… ohm, what was i saying?
namaste!

pieceoBabbel about baby’s almost dropped and pisstained panties

michael jackson almost dropped that baby.

he almost dropped that baby, the one he named prince michael II.
michael I. almost dropped prince michael II.
the german media roared!
then the american pressed started to roar.
michael appologized.
but what is even more interesting: nobody knows where that baby came from.
there’s no mother around.
???
prince michael II. just sort of materialised out of thin air.
prince michael II. is michael I.’s new toy, so he can drop it from his balcony as he pretty damn well pleases…
no mother around to yell at him after dropping that baby. pretty niffty!

but what about that baby now?
is it a clone?
an in vitro conception?
an extraterrestrian?

at about the same time madonna almost pissed her panties when she visited the queen during the james bond opening ceremony. i of course want to see those panties..
don’t you?

pieceoBolitix the perils of direct democracy….

or: how to explain this strange strange STRANGE swiss mentality?

the swiss political system always gets praise as being one of the best examples of a functioning direct democracy.
this may well be the case - in theory - but then the system itself does not mean much, if the people voting are not up to it.
and lets face it, the swiss have got to be one the most stupid people in the world!
what use is a direct democracy if you give it into the hands of a stupid, xenophobic, narrowminded nation?
consistently the swiss vote for their own confinement, against an opening towards europe, for more and more isolation within their conservative narrow horizon.
its sad.
this weekend switzerland almost said yes to an incredibly xenophobic motion brought forth by the ultraconservative rightwing party svp. 50.1 % no-votes made the tragically small difference.
or: a few months ago the swiss voters were given a chance to say yes to the 35-hour week!
great! work less! have more fun!
shure thing one would think, yes?
the swiss voted against it! the swiss said: no!
they were given the chance to vote to work less and they voted against it!!!!!!!!!

i think i prefer good old monarchy or even a friendly dictator!
direct democracy my ass, this SUCKS!

pieceoBolitix take this, suckerrrrrr

a schoolboy aged 11 jumped out of the window of his classroom this past week in a small town here in switzerland.
he did this in front of his schoolmates.
he did this after receiving a bad grade in a test.
he did this muttering: the teacher will regret this …
he suffered severe injuries.

11 years old …

the teacher said he did not want to feel guilty about this …

what do you make of this?
should we look for that pink floyd record?

Hey teachers, leave us kids alone …
All in all it’s just a nother prick (he he) in the wall

pieceoBalls grande partita

23, some claim, is an ominous number.
on this 23.11.2002: two of the most important football games in two of the most important football leagues in europe.
in italy: ac milan - inter, the game they call Derby della Madonnina.
and in spain: the eternal derby: barca - real madrid.
milan ac won 1:0. only one goal in what they in italy would call una grande partita, serginho chipped it in after receiving a pass of genius from rivaldo, who used to play for barca.
yet barca - real ended 0:0. the game had to be interrupted for 13(!) minutes, after figo, who used to play for barca, was prevented from taking a corner kick through projectiles from the angry catalan crowd…
now what does this all mean?

i don’t have a fucking clue!

it’s just this game we love …… and try to put meaning into
