pieceoBolitix bushism is so not funny anymore

a few month ago i ordered the bushism dvd. it took forever to get here. in fact it came here well after the us elections…
so then for awhile i could not get myself to watch it.

well, yesterday i tried.

this is so not funny anymore.
in fact, now that bush got re-elected it is much more tragic than anything else.
and to think that millions of americans indorsed this idiot and his dangerous politics with their votes… how could that happen?

not even buildabetterbush does it for me anymore…

man… what a nightmare.

quote [...] unquote [f]Art pour l'Art james hillman: kinds of power

we become artists only when we enjoy the practicing as much as the performing. until then we are caught in the limelight rather than the art. it’s not the opening in the gallery that makes the painter (although it may make his or her career); it’s the repetitious actions in the studio. over and over again, not to get it finally right, not for the sake of perfection, but simply doing it as if for its own sake, freed from having to do it. the work working by itself, mechanically, repetitiously, impersonally.
[…]
suzi gablik’s book [suzi gablik: the reenchantment of art (new york: thames & hudson, 1991)] on the role of art in an ecologically concious society describes compassionate action towards things as a new mode for western art - art in service to the world. one chapter, describing an artist’s devotion to the regular cleaning of the beanks of the upper rio grande, portrays a ritual of service that is in keeping with a definition of art in its most extreme old-fashioned sense, “art for art’s sake”, but here no longer a private “creation” by a socially detached elite, separate from life and the surroundings, but in dedication to life and the surroundings. it is pure art, without compensation. it has no motive beyond the act, no program, no tendentious message - for the river cannot be cleaned by one person, if ever cleaned at all. it is rital gesture, mediative devotion and service for its own sake, unprofitable and pleasing no customer.

quoted from: james hillman: kinds of power - isbn 0-385-48967-6 - a book about power in the business world, but drawing parallels from everywhere, including these interesting thoughts regarding art.

pieceoBolitix ukranian sign linguist

when the ukrainian tv went on to give the “official” results of the polls, there was this woman sign linguist interpreting the news for the deaf in a small corner on the bottom-right of the screen but she actually “said”: citizens, don’t believe what they say, they are lying!

so, see the irony: THE DEAF WERE BETTER INFORMED THAN THE REST!!

[thanx klav]

more on this here. she is actually quoted for saying: “Don’t believe this. It’s all lies. Yushchenko is our president and this is probably my last day at work.”

edit: now the journalists of state-owend tv channel in ukraine have joined the opposition. here

and: a very thoughtprovoking look at the western media’s view in this conflict by john laughland: the revolution televised

pieceoBeatz cast your vote @ worldwide music awards

worlwide music award
radio 1 gilles petersen is holding his annual worldwide music award again, where users can vote for best tracks, albums and clubnights of 2004. this year there will not only be a compilation made, but two parties will be held to celebrate the winners…

what worries me is how very few of these tracks and albums i know. i am sure 2 years ago i would have known almost every track. or at least read about it. even from last years winners i still knew quite a few. its amazing how fast i lost touch from the dj scene. but that also says something about the scene. quite a ghetto…

also musically interesting: songfacts.com. song meanings, lyrics and trivia. hidden meanings, background info, gossip. nice and nerdy. [via 4rthur]

and in unrelated news: why would tfx find my website nice? is it the plastic in my name??? do i even like the word nice being used when talking about this weird blog? is this spam? will you sponsor me? come again?

pieceoButtah pieceoplastic.com is suitable for vegetarians

suitable for vegetarians
awhile ago the big supermarket chains here in switzerland (COOP and Migros) have started to label certain food items as “suitable for vegetarians”. its pretty cool. it shows up as above green “V” icon on the packaging (COOP) and i’ll tell you, not having to read all the super small print ingredients listings does make shopping easier.

the problem is, they only do it on certain foods.
so this instantly raises a number of questions:

what about all the other foods?
are all other foods NOT suitable for vegetarians?
or have they simply not gotten around labeling them yet?
and what with this particular food item?
was this previously NOT suitable for vegetarians and has now been made so?
or does this mean that the same item in other brands is NOT suitable for vegetarians?

you see. its all pretty confusing…

but then yesterday i bought a glass of sundried tomatoes and noticed that it carried the “V” icon.
i mean, duh…
how on earth could sundried tomatoes, olive oil and spices NOT be suitable for vegetarians?
would they add lard to the olive oil?
or the spices were grown on pigs?
or the tomatoes were fed bone marrow.
i mean, are they soon gonna start to label fruit and vegetables?
this orange is suitable for vegetarians.
meaning it has not been coated in lard.

i think this label only makes sense on products that are doubtful, like soups and other prefab stuff. but in that general category all items should carry it. or is that too confuseling? i give up…

i just found the rules and regulations at vegetarismus.ch. i especially like the sanctions section… he he
