wwWank gadgetMinded decodeunicode.org - the digital type wiki

creative heaven via decodeunicode.org

decodeunicode.org is an

independent online-platform for digital type culture, developed at the Department of Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz.

and it is bound to become THE ressource par excellence for all typography fanatics out there.

postal mark face via decodeunicode.org

so here’s what happens when a german professor and a designer get together to build the all-encompassing wiki database to document all the unicode type faces there are. 50′000 [sorry got that wrong] 865 characters are already up there, while unicode encodes more than 50′000 on the basic multilingual plane - [and to think that i already struggle with the latin alphabet…]. unfortunately the site is not extremly intuitive to navigate, but there is tons of interesting information to be found. pieceoBabbel pieceoBeatz pieceoCast iTunes 4.9 w. podcasts

oh goodie, me thinks, but when i try to publish my podcast i notice that

A. somebody has already done it [which is great] and
B. one of the 2 links does not seem to work propper, and i suspect its the wp.rss link, is it?

questions:
anybody know what happend here?
who published it? why did the wp-rss link not work?
i would like to edit the title and the description, but i can’t seem to do that…
how can i switch the image? i would like this one to go in there…
how can i switch the category? but probably audio blog is all there is.. comedy? hmm
i would like the author to be a link to my contact page.
what to do to make the wp-rss link work?
will i get in trouble now for not paying royalties?
who pays my ticket to brasil?

edit:

okay. so i got it all wrong. it appears that iTunes picks up the rss feed as is, plus they have introduced a few iTunes specific tags that will display an image, author info and all that junk.
another problem seems to be that iTunes ignores my category specific rss-feed.

in other words, it can pick up:
http://pieceoplastic.com/wp-rss2.php
but it ignores:
http://pieceoplastic.com/wp-rss2.php?category_name=pieceocast

so right now, i am attempting to make an iTunes specific rss feed, i’ll call it wp-rss2istunes.php, that will have all the iTunes specific tags and will only pick up the pieceocast category. i found kevin devin’s instructions @ podcasting yahoo group on how to adapt all the rss file. but i still have to figure out how to limit it to just pick up that one category. i am not sure if that will work. keep you posted…

pieceoBolitix c-word grokster stuff

oh holy mother of hot damn. [yes, that was my comment re: the grokster ruling (blame brainfog)]

but some people where more eloquent, of course:

xeni jardin on npr

cory doctorow editorial for popular science

This decision won’t kill P2P sharing. Engineering students write P2P software in 11 lines of code as class assignments. Most Internet users use file-sharing software, and that’s not going to stop, no matter how many lawsuits the labels win against customers and companies. P2P will outlast today’s generation of technophobic record execs who are steering their companies to slow, spectacular suicide.

pheew, and who cares about the americans further crippling their economy… hah!

fred von lohman preemptive crib-sheet

and here’s the mp3 of the rulingeff pressconference re:grokster - and even a torrent, and thats somehow very cute.

pieceoBolitix c-word eyes on the prize - the torrents

awhile ago downhillbattle.org organised a protest screening of the revered documentary eyes on the prize. a screening in bern was organised.
somebody called |||||||||| informed me [in comments] that eyes on the prize has now hit p2p, more precisly the torrent site ChomskyTorrents.org - “The purpose of this site is to provide a gathering place for torrents with progressive and radical content. As for now, it preserves a special place for the work of American dissident Noam Chomsky, as the domain name suggests.”

pieceoBabbel why do i love this river so?

bern, switzerland is great in summer. and mostly for one reason: the river aare.

the aare is perfect on all accounts. it’s got fresh water straight from the alps, it’s clean enough so we can swim in it, it’s deep enough, it’s got strong but not too violent pull, the temperature is always refreshing at 21 to 22C max - especially on a very hot day water warmer than that is not all that refreshing.

so all these components really fall into place. but yesterday i thought about all this while taking a swim in the river and still i wondered what makes this such an outstanding experience?

i noticed that there is a certain danger to it - every year a few people do drown in the river - so you can’t just take it easy. you have to stay alert and you have to know what you’re doing. this slight threat of danger has to be faced each time you go in.

then swimming in a river is very particular because you don’t actually have to swim to advance. the river takes you along. it envelops you. takes care of things. yet you do have to a fairly good swimmer to get back out of it. so it asks for your educated surrender, knowing your abilities. in that way it’s elitist. we laugh at tourists or newscomers who are too impressed and do not dare to swim.

but another thing really surprised me. it seems that swimming in the river somehow suspends time. all your sorrows, troubles, worries are left on shore. once you’re in the river there is only the moment. the enjoyment. the water. the sounds.

face your fears - surrender - be in the moment. sounds very zen, and awfully esoteric.
i guess, we could simply say, we got lucky…

:flash: adbuster’s art fart questions - i am so struggeling with this questionaire. does art have the ability to change the world? hmmm. good answers will get published in their next issue. [also: adbuster RSS feeds]

:flash: MIT blog survey - i took this survey and i am sad to admit, i got “it” bad… [via waxy/links]

:flash: massivley parallel culture - great rant by chris anderson on how strange it is when you realise that certain internet phenomena are not all that well known in the general public. [via joi]

:flash: BxCMS 1.2.0 released - ” It’s free. It’s a CMS, not “just” a blog. It’s based on Open Source technology (you can even download and use the software by yourself). It’s getting better” and its swiss.

:flash: cracking the flag burning amendment - by burning one that looks like the amercian flag yet is slightly different. that simple. [via bb]

:flash: wagenschenke: HangOver - after last year’s hugely succeful game HomeRun (where you had to navigate the drunk guy home) here’s the new one. this time he has a hang over and you have to try to stop the gastric acid.

loud:

:flash: bad taste loudblog - a new swiss podcast dedicated to loud bad taste rock’n'roll brought to you by el tiki. “bad music by good friends”. and reverend beatman IS amazing.

:flash: dickcream.com - those weird and wicked video/audio loops still are great, i especially like the newest one: BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!

hopeful:

:flash: tom cruise kills oprah - wanna see the true tom cruise? there’s hope!

:flash: vote fort juanzo - the fabulous tale of how ccc crashed his local papers ‘Baby of the Year’ competition? there’s hope!

beyond hope:

:flash: shoes of the fisherman - somebody make the [rot in] [hell] equivalent soon or i think i am going to have to puke.

:flash: the global frequency screenwriter moans - and we join in. why why why did they sack that brilliant series (inspired by the warren ellis comic) after airing the pilot? try to find it on a p2p network near you for 45 minutes of nostalgic sentimental - is the word i was fishing for - tv viewing.

new kids on the blog: [2005 - the year of the thematic blog?]

:flash: liquid culture - a blog dedicated to CC and free culture [via al4ie]

:flash: INKEDblog - a new blog dedicated to tatoos by the wooster collective.

question of the week: what the fuck is the psychology behind it when a man kills his kids (and sometimes his wife) first before topping himself? it seems like, we have one of these weekly now here in switzerland. is there a pattern emerging?

question of the weekend: don’t you just wish you were in glastonbury this wknd? [img via al4ie]
