there were no commentators, when we started watching spain - france. amazing how you could feel the players pre-match tension there. first without commentators and then there were 4 or 5 guys and 1 woman commenting all at once, passing the mic back and forth, like a hiphop crew in a battle. amazing job, and even if spain unfairly lost, they took it well, “la vida sin egual”. in the end, again, they only had the ambient sound feed on, after one last very symbolic question coming from the woman in the off: “y que hacemos ahora?”.

the national hyms they played that night were a bit odd, i’ll admit, a japanese kraftwerk cover version for spain and a swiss reggae song for france? hmm? and odd coincidence, maywa denki is playing in zurich this weekend and in fribourg this monday. more info. i should go, but can’t promise i will.

actually wrong, we want to move out of misery and move to misery, switzerland.

last weekend while driving to the lake f. discovered a village called misery on the map. it was not too far off the road so we went for a short visit. excellent place!!! exquisite. is it paradise? could a small village called misery be paradise?

i think we must all move to misery. missie w. must! come along and we could have a commune with pets named helium that keep saying “miseriiieeeeeeeeee”. i mean come on, there is even a restaurant misery in the village … can’t you just hear it? “lets go get drunk on absinthe at the restaurant misery”

disclaimer: this post has nothing whatsoever to do with the swiss losing their ucraine game in such an embarassing way. i am a brasil supporter. yup

Introduction

douglas coupland’s latest book jPod seems to have a slight identity crisis. while the team of computer programmers is called jPod throughout the book, on the cover it is spelled JPod; at least on the US edition. the UK edition spells it correctly, jPod. if you happen to own the US edition of the book, here’s how to fix it.

Steps

1. assemble your materials: a brush, acrylic paint, masking tape, some water and the book

2. mask the letter J in two places using masking tape. it is best to use fairly new masking tape, to make sure it won’t tear the cover, when the tape is removed eventually

3. mix your acrylic paint to match the color of the book cover using as little water as possible

4. lightly stubb the paint onto the cover, carefully making sure not to get any paint underneath the masking tape

5. allow the paint to dry for a short while, in order to check if it matches the cover. note: color intensity of paint tends to get slightly darker upon drying. if necessary adjust the mix.

6. carefully remove the masking tape and allow the paint to dry

7. enjoy a book with improved integrity

Tips

* procede in a similar way to fix JPod on various places of the cover. or inside the book.

* test the masking tape on a neutral spot first, to make sure it won’t tear when taken off.
* use as little water as possible while mixing the paint to prevent it from getting underneath the masking tape.

so in a weird way, this feels kinda ok.
