who are you??
my name is jan zuppinger aka pieceoplastic aka selectah j.
i am the man with a name like a fantasy unix shell command script:

i live in bern, switzerland. of all places…
i am a socialworker suffering from burn-out syndrome, who has converted himself into an internet generalist but fails to make any money from this.
currently i am looking for a new career, hell, i am looking for A career since i have none.
ex-DJ. post-DJ. urban love warrior. peace & love agent. post-punk. since i saw and used my first apple computer, it’s been an on-off love affair. married to franziska nyffeler aka monkeypunk since 1999. i played world of warcraft for almost 5 years now… not proud but still amazed.
why ex-dj?
actually, ex-club-dj would be more to the point. when i turned 40 i decided, that it was time to quit dj’ing in clubs. at that point i had been doing this for 8 years, not getting any younger during that time, while the kids attending the parties did seem to get more and more young. it was time to step down and let younger and much more talented djs take over. plus, physically it got very taxing to keep doing it, to stay up late and working hard in smoky rooms with loud pumping music. my recuperation phases grew longer and longer. so i stopped dj’ing in clubs. and i have not regretted one second. but i still bedroom dj and create the occasional dj mix and now, since last friday, a weekly podcast.
podcast feed a few years later, that podcast has also stopped, i now just collect music and don’t ever listen to it… it’s a curse. and a blessing.

if only i knew. i am still in the process of trying to figure that one out. once i have, i promise i will stop babbleblogging just long enough to let you know…

nope. born in new york. to swiss parents. grew up in switzerland.
in other words: holder of the two most horrific passports in the world.
other than that, nada. oh except that I invented the emote sign language. and that my farts – uhm never mind that.
internet since?
basically, i invented it. no no. 1995. so yes. a very late bloomer.

whats with the name PieceoPlastic?
when i was registering for my yahoo account i happened to listen to a dj-mix i was working on, where i had used a 3 stooges sample that goes like so: pieceoplastic sample. the way curly – or is it joey? – says pieceahplastic inspired me to register as pieceoplastic. and it stuck. people over the years have mostly sexualised my nick, thinking i was refering to dildos, tupperware and/or other fetish items. while in actuality its records. good old boring vinyl records. old school. like me.
when will you ever grow up?
i gave up wanting to grow up quite a few years ago, that was when i turned 30. it’s not about that. actually if growing up means losing the ability to see things with a sense of wonder and with innocent curiosity, i think i never want to grow up…
why do you blog?

can somebdoy please cease & desist, sue or shoot me soon to make it stop? please? anybody?
or asked differently, what qualifies do you to blog and clog up more bandwidth with your useless babble?

why do you blog in english? your english is the worstest, dude
i knowww. it was a decision i took, when i started out in november 2002 and so now i have a blog with an identity crisis. but switching now seems impossible. these were the reasons for that decision: for one i am an extreme anglophile, a very significant reason. between 1986 and 1992 i lived in california and had the best time of my life there. the other thing is, that i did not want to limit the amount of people able to understand my blog. german is much less widely spoken than english. many people here in switzerland do understand english, but hardly any people in england, canada and the US speak german. plus at the time when i started most blogs were in english.
