all i can say about tracy emin, not knowing much at all about her back then, i had a huge involuntary errection, when visiting her show at the last biennale in venice. not sure why i felt the urge to share that, but hey, there you have it … ^^

franziska has posted this great photo of a snow sculpture, that two of her students have built a few weeks ago on the roof of the school, depicting switzerland’s most hilarious esoteric tv psychic, the unbelievable mika shiva (his website is always worth a visit for a good chuckle). the snow sculpture is more than 2 meters high, in other words it’s huge, and imo they did a really great job on his smile.

i recently went for a walk with my mum in bremgarten, the village near bern where i grew up. there we walked past this old graffiti by harald nägeli, one of his characteristic stickfigure drawings, who was known in the late 70’s and early 80’s as “der sprayer von zürich”. my mum remembered, that back then one of our neighbors hid nägeli in his house, when the heat was on in zürich and all over the media, trying to find this very public graffiti artist. harald nägeli, the compulsive artist that he was, couldn’t help himself but do some of his work in our hood ^^. my mum told me, that most other places his work had been removed, but this piece stays intact, albeit fading.

as an aside, nägeli is only 5 years younger than my mother, and as such did not fit the proflie that people had of a graffiti artist.

but. while the movie theaters can’t do much about people’s behaviors, there are a few things that they could improve. one thing, that is extremely annoying are the previews and commercials you have to suffer through before the film starts. in france they found an easy solution to this. they communicate two starting times, one for previews/commercials, for those people who do like to watch them, and another when the actual movie starts. another very annoying thing in switzerland are the breaks. they will stop the movie somewhere in the middle to sell ice creams, show more commercials, give smokers a chance for a nicotine fix. quite a few films really suffer from such an interruption; mullholland drive, a david lynch movie!!!!, really fell apart for me, because of that stupid break. then they assign seats in swiss movie theaters, and what a stupid thing that is. they cluster everyone at the center, creating a totally unnatural seating pattern, and the customers, being swiss, they will actually insist on getting their assigned seat. i have observed many fights about this.

in short, usually there is no reason to go suffer in a movie theater, when i could enjoy the films in the quiet of my home. so usually i just wait till the movie gets shown on cable, released on dvd, or there are a few other options out there, i won’t mention here … ^^ (lately i have watched a few movies on my ipod touch. brilliant). but ok, it is also because there have not been that many must-see movies lately. however at the moment i am tempted to go see der baader meinhof komplex. do i dare? because there is always the risk that a perfectly decent movie goes to waste. remember narc. nah, i won’t go …

we soft launched RSS Art earlier this year. the spammers have already discovered us, so it’s about time we make it public.
alot has happened this year already, we moved house, i lost my job … but RSS Art is fun.

so far there are only two blogs: RSS Art 001 and RSS Art 000 .

the latter is of course not really an artists blog. it’s more like the beta blog of the project, where i will occasionally publish my pathetic attempts at being creative.
the first is by my lovely and very talented partner franziska nyffeler.

we hope to attract more artists, who want to explore with us this form of publishing their work.

if you know someone, that you think should participate in this project, please point them this way, or contact us here, for us to contact them.

we plan to create a propper portal of sorts, where the latest additions to the various RSS Art blogs will appear. if anyone has an idea for a technical solution to accomplish this, please let me know. it runs on wordpress.

this streetartsy advertisement campaign by swiss aids organisation aids hilfe schweiz works well, because it makes the passerbys do a double-take. at first i wondered, if this was a streetart project, which in and off itself would have been quite a cool idea – a girl hidden behind huge advertisement panels.

but the text reads: “children like lea do not hide for fun, but because they are afraid of discrimination” [translation: mine]

the campaign’s aim is to prevent discrimination against HIV-positive people.
