- respect to undiano mallenco. finally a ref who had the guts to sanction the germans for their very violent game. just observe it yourself next game, the germans usually start their games playing physically very hard and violent. i guess this serves to intimidate the opponents – and usually the ref as well. but it’s in those first minutes of a game that this kind of bullying needs to be stopped. well done.

- when? how much more shit like this do we need? first the irish get their spot at the worldcup denied by the hand of frog. now the americans may not make it out of the group stage. and all because of stupid mistakes by ref that could so easily be avoided with video replay… only every other sports uses video replay, why not football? come on blatter, stop being a stubborn old man.

- swiss ref busacca really has a problem with home crowds. we know this all too well from the swiss league. it seems to me that busacca tries very hard not to be influenced by the power of home crowds. he tries so hard in fact that he tends to overcompensate and turn the other way becoming almost too harsh AGAINST the home team. this kind of attitude seems to fit well with swiss mentality. home team southafrica was his latest victim.

i must be one of the few people in switzerland, who feel ashamed at the way the swiss won their game against spain last night. they won, that’s good i guess, but how? they won playing extremely destructive football, 8 – 9 defensive men behind, and then going for counter atttacks. and even the goal they did create was very scrappy and not at all beautiful.

this is how inter milan won the champions league, or the greeks won the european championship in 2004. good for them, but sad for football.

let’s face it, this is a huge tournament and the stakes are huge. but if the northern koreans can almost deny the brazilians a win, and the swiss can even win against spain, things are just going the wrong way. switzerland has never won against spain yet, and for good reason. and that’s really ok. ours is a small country and a small league. the worldcup should have a different kind of beauty than winning games at all cost.

i think that there need to be rules that punish this type of tactics, destructive football takes all the fun out of “the beautiful game”. or it will get more and more boring.

just a quick recap of my experiences with panini collection for the worldcup 2010 in south africa.

- i start by purchasing a complete box. to my great surprise there is not one double sticker in that entire box. the only doubles i do get are the ones i received in a daily newspaper. and even with those i got lucky, only three doubles. i search online and get confirmation. many people report this as well, no doubles in full boxes. meanwhile a mathematician states that mathematically speaking this is impossible. panini most somehow sort their output and not use random as they always claim. more fodder for panini conspiracy theorists.

503 done 3 doubles

- i purchase 25 additional bags, in which i find only 32 stickers i can use… i rest my case.

540 done 90ish doubles

- start to look online for ways to trade. i register at panini.ch and at stickermanager.com. both services do not convince me. i instead post my missing stickers on facebook. from that 4 exchanges result, for a total of roughly 20 stickers. one exchange results from emailing someone on panini’s website. [watch the kids note bellow... cuteness alert!]

560 done 70ish doubles

- my wife abuses here position as teacher and exchanges with two of her students. from that i get to exchange roughly 40 stickers, she only has to tade them 15!!!

590 done 55ish doubles

- i now have less than 50 stickers missing. so i proceed to order the missing images on the panini website, something every self-respecting collector would never do, much less admit on their personal blog ;p.

panini turns out to be a huge fail, from the 50 i ordered i receive 44, of which 2 turn out to be stcikers i didn’t order and 1 unuseable. so instead of the 50 to complete the album i am still missing 9. upset i proceed to complain to them via email, and this time it is my turn to make 2 mistakes. they send me the correct stickers, but i failed on 2 stickers.

so basically, even if you are an old (meaning you can’t hit the school yards without getting arrested as a perv), unemployed (meaning no option for water cooler trading sessions) loser like myself, you can complete your panini collection, thanks to the … *drumroll* … internetz!!!

yes yes yes, i admit it. this morning i am flooded with the purest form of malice, “häme”, despite being kept awake quite late by the honking cars in the neverending italian corso. and yes yes yes the italians do not REALLY deserve to go to finals either. but then, in this most rotten of worldcups, who does?

certainly not the germans, they deserved to lose. in fact, a few games ago.
so here’s a big “take this, suckers” from my part. take this for:

- compensating your lack of football skills with agrressivity and mental strength. football is supposed to be a game, remember?
- whistling each time an opposing player touched the ball.
- blatantly abusing of the home advantage in every conceivable way hardly deserving of the slogan “die welt zu gast bei freuden”.
- behaving as if this title was somehow reserved for you and taking every conceivable measure to impose it [even voodoo!].
- creating the most unfair schedule ever, putting the home team in advantage in every posssible way, best stadiums, longest breaks between games, etc.
- franz beckenbauer. enough said.
- oliver kahn. enough said.
- jürgen klinsi. enough said.
- having your worst ever bundeskanzlerin frau ferkel merkel in the stadium! and shown on tv every 3 seconds! i still puke.
- getting all german-style enthusiastic and your media going overboard in every possible direction. as usual.

oh, i could go on.

italians, great job. realistic. clean.
despite the sweatstain jersey design, at least its creative. despite only really starting to play last game or so, we love the minimalismo. this was worldclass football. great defense. great attacking. now win this sucker of a tournament.

there were no commentators, when we started watching spain – france. amazing how you could feel the players pre-match tension there. first without commentators and then there were 4 or 5 guys and 1 woman commenting all at once, passing the mic back and forth, like a hiphop crew in a battle. amazing job, and even if spain unfairly lost, they took it well, “la vida sin egual”. in the end, again, they only had the ambient sound feed on, after one last very symbolic question coming from the woman in the off: “y que hacemos ahora?”.

the national hyms they played that night were a bit odd, i’ll admit, a japanese kraftwerk cover version for spain and a swiss reggae song for france? hmm? and odd coincidence, maywa denki is playing in zurich this weekend and in fribourg this monday. more info. i should go, but can’t promise i will.

als praktizierender linker versuche ich mich vom fremdenhass jeglicher schattierung zu distanzieren. aber eigentlich tönt es so viel zu negativ und pfichtbetont. freiwillig und gerne bin ich anderen kulturen gegenüber offen eingestellt, nicht zuletzt weil die auseinandersetzung mit diesen kulturen mein leben bereichert, und zwar täglich. nur schweizerisches und nur deutsches wäre mir schlicht und ergreifend zu öde. im tv schaue ich mir primär sender in anderen sprachen oder aus anderen ländern an. auf dem internet lümmle ich hauptsächlich auf anderssprachigen websites rum. die kulturellen unterscheidungen verflachen dank diesen medien, und dass ist gut so.

doch beim fussball hört meine kulturelle offenheit plötzlich auf. im fussball, und zwar speziell während einer WM, kommen ganz andere gefühle in mir hoch; leidenschaftliche gefühle wie hass, die mich manchmal fast erschrecken, die zu unterdrücken ich aber nicht im stande bin. eigenartigerweise ist es dabei primär ein land, auf welches sich meine ganze abneignung richtet.

okay, ich habe jetzt lange genug um den heissen brei herumgeredet. ich gebe es zu, (auch) ich hasse die deutschen …uhm… fussballspieler, sorry jens blogwiese, aber es lässt sich einfach nicht wegdiskutieren. an dieser WM ist für mich, jetzt mal rein fussballerisch gesehen, die welt zu gast bei feinden.

deutsche fussballspieler, den deutschen fussball an sich, den ganzen zirkus darum herum, all dies hasse ich, verstehe es selber nicht so ganz, mit einer leidenschaft, die mich selber manchmal erschreckt. sogar das wort hass passt, und an sich möchte ich natürlich, dass der hass nicht zu meinem emotionalen repertoire gehört. mein ganzer medienkonsum ändert sich schlagartig. sogar raab, den ich mir zwar eh nur noch selten ankucke, wird plötzlich unaushaltbar. erst wenn die deutschen dann im achtelfinal ausscheiden werden, kann ich wieder auf die deutschen kanäle zappen. nachdem sie verloren haben, sind sie herrlich, die deutschen medien. da kauf ich mir sogar die bild zeitung am nächsten tag, um mir die parade der begossenen pudel reinzuziehen.

klar, die deutschen spielen unattraktiven fussball – hauruck, hart, kampfbetont, mechanisch. und klar, sie gewinnen immer alles. naja, eigentlich schon lange nicht mehr. klar, sie haben immer ein riesenglück – ich mein, wer sonst kann dank viertelfinal gegen die USA und halbfinal gegen südkorea in einen WM-final vorstossen? okay, die franzosen 1998. wer sonst in der 92. ein tor gegen polen reinmurksen? okay, die schweden. wer sonst immer die leichtesten vorrundengruppen ziehen? okay, die italiener. wer sonst dank einer schwalbe weltmeister werden? ha! endlich ein grund. aber naja, all diese argumente rechtfertigt natürlich noch keinen hass. hmm.

als gedankliches experiment stelle ich mir gerade vor die deutschen spielten wie die brasilianer fussball. könnte ich sie dann lieben? ich bezweifle es.

anfangs habe ich geschrieben ich distanziere mich vom fremdenhass jeglicher schattierung. das war falsch ausgedrückt, denn ich verstehe es viel prozesshafter. fremdenhass besteht als potential auch in mir und ihn nicht auszuleben gelingt nur durch anstrengung und aktive reflektion. das fremdenfeindliche potential muss immer wieder erkannt und prozesshaft verarbeitet werden. menschen, die dieses potential in sich verneinen, sind sehr gefährlich; fast so gefährlich wie die neonazis und skinheads, die voll darauf abfahren. wer dieses potential in sich verneint lebt mit einer zeitbombe, weil es sich jederzeit und in den unpassendsten momenten manifestieren kann. als erkanntes potential ist fremdenhass auch gar kein problem, die gedanken sind frei und verletzen niemanden. bei fremdenfeindlichen taten hört allerdings alles auf, solche sind unakzeptabel.

leider müssen wir seit einigen jahren in der schweiz erleben, wie fremdenfeindlichkeit wieder salonfähig geworden ist. für mich hat dieses phänomen mit einer unabgeschlossenen verarbeitung des potentiales zu tun. zu schnell und zu oberflächlich wurden fremdenfeinliche regungen verboten. dadurch wurden sie jedoch bloss tabusiert, der verarbeitungsprozess, mit dem ziel sie tatsächlich abzulegen, wurde übersprungen. und jetzt wirkt es absurderweise für viele schweizer befreiend wieder zu diesen unterdrückten gefühlen stehen zu dürfen.

die frage ist berechtigt, habe auch ich meinen fremdenhass nicht sauber verarbeitet, wenn im fussball plötzlich solche hassgefühle in mir hochkommen? vielleicht. aber vielleicht ist fussball auch der passende ort, um solche gefühle auf spielerische weise in einem klar abgesteckten rahmen auszuleben. und vielleicht sind die deutschen ein gutgewähltes opfer, denn sie sind ja auch nicht gerade zimperlich im austeilen, und scheinen vor selbstvertrauen nur so zu strotzen.

die WM als toleranzschulung? in dem sinne müsste man sich fast wünschen, dass die deutschen den pokal gewinnen … doch nein. es darf nicht sein. so wie es nichts schöneres gibt als wenn die deutschen verlieren, voller häme wird dies jeweils gefeiert, so gibt es auch nicht schrecklicheres als wenn sie gewinnen. also kann ich nur hoffen, dass die freunde, ja die freunde die momentan zu gast bei den feinden sind, die deutschen möglichst bald schlagen werden. dann kann man endlich damit anfangen diese verflixte WM zu geniessen.
