Title: What The Funky Duck Is That Noise?

A cassette tape has written CANCEL in big, fat marker on it.
Here it finally is: Cancel Culture

Today is my mother’s birthday.

She turns 90. 🎂

I don’t know what this has to do with my mix tape.

Nothing, i guess.

She will never ever find it or listen to it.

Yet, today, i still dedicate this mix tape to my mother.

A futile gesture, screamed into the void of the internet from one content creator among millions, who keeps spamming the world with more digital trash. Oh boy.

(We also don’t get along too well)

“Hi mum,

I wish you a happy birthday!

Sadly, we can’t come to your party.
Too many people will be at your house, and no one will be wearing a mask.

It’s because i am still not well from Long COVID, you know, and can’t risk it to be in rooms with unmasked people.
Yes, i am aware that you are not doing great either, health wise. But you chose the “social version”, is how my sister told it to me.

So guess what, i made you a symbolic mix tape instead.
Symbolic, because i will never tell you about it.
The music would be too *noisy for you anyway.

I do hope that you are doing okay and that you spend a wonderful day.

Yours, xo

PS: The mix is about noise, but it might also be too noisy.”

Yeah … Noise.
Fucking noise is driving me bonkers.

Sometimes i wonder why i keep producing these noisy DJ mixes, if noise hurts me so much, that it sometimes is painful.

But then i remember that music, and creating these silly mixes, is one place where i can access my joy.

I listen to them when the outside noise is driving me crazy.
Even though my tinnitus sometimes rings after listening to my mixes, it’s still worth it.

Music is one of the few possibilities that i have to drift elsewhere, into a space where i can find solace and soothing emotions.

Plus, i now have visual floaters as well.
Long COVID keeps coming up with creative schemes to fuck me over.
The visual floaters, or mouches volants, are one reason why i love to close my eyes and listen to music.

Of course, i would much prefer to listen to bird song or alpacas or the beaver eating the corn he harvested from the farmer’s field. But in this world, there is always a plane–a loud car, a construction site, a leaf blower, a weed whacker, an annoying neighbor–to spam the peaceful soundscape.

We sure have created a loud world.

Musically i went a bit old school in this mix, dug up some gems from the 90s.

And by the way, i did notice that i used one song three times. Well, at first i forgot that i had already used in an earlier segment.
But then i loved so much how it sounded, that i kinda made it the point.

I funky ducked the shit out of this goddamn mix.

Can the same song work at 100, 110 and 123 bpm? You be the judge of that.
