Title: 123 Scrumptious Dishes Inc.

This will be the very last episode of this strange “podcast” series, of these mix tapes or whatever i should call these abominations.
I know, i know. I keep saying that. But this time, i really mean it.
It has been clear for some time that i simply must stop creating these mixes.
My head hurts from the music, the tinnitus is killing me.
Plus, isn’t 123 a wonderful number for a final episode?! It is. Since I can’t make it 1312 episodes, 123 is a perfectly decent amount.
I will be releasing one further DJ mix, another VERY old project, hopefully soon, or at the latest before the end of this year. One final ruckus.
Over the last few episodes of the “podcast” i have mostly been tying up loose ends, finished some old projects, ideas, re-visited and fixed a few older mixes.
But this particular mix has been on my mind for many more years.
In the late 90s and early 00s i was involved in a DJ and VJ collective called 100 Mouthwatering Menus Inc. The concept was to combine music, video projections and food in a monthly club night. Yes, we actually served food during the parties at the Reitschule. Hilarious.
We were an actual collective comprised of 3 DJs, 3 VJs and 2 FJs (Food jockeys, gettit?). Or at least i thought we were a collective. Until one day i was confronted with the fact, that we had vastly diverging ideas of what it meant to be in a collective. Until i got overruled by majority vote in regards to a icky, commercial project, i had always assumed that we take our decisions by consensus. Nope.
That’s when and why i needed to leave the “collective”.

But before that, in 2001, we released a compilation CD together. And ever since then i always wondered if i could create a seamless mix with the tracks. The MC on the CD had gotten on my nerves fast. How would the songs we selected fit together as a mix?
Well, i tried.
I did take the liberty to add a few songs that were initially planned for inclusion, but didn’t make the final selection for various reasons. The first and the last song (Aphex, Anderson), were not considered, but i used them to round things out.
These songs are so familiar, i know them almost too well. Many of them i would no longer pick for a compilation. I mean, even if Shinehead had created a great version, Billie Jean?! What were we thinking!? But with all these songs it almost felt like re-connecting with an old friend.
Sadly the people from the collective are no longer my friends. I miss them, even though they completely rejected me over a silly dispute. And i miss these times, that now feel like they happened in a past life.
Back then, when we released a CD together, which was wow, i still was somebody. Not this pathetic, old fart of a failure that i am now. I still had hopes and plans and perspectives.
I don’t think the CD ever sold that well. But i wouldn’t know. The mouthwatering brand was taken over by one of the DJs. And i never saw a dime from any of it.
Now i worry, that they might sue me for this mix. Let’s hope not. Let’s hope they never find it.
I’ll just hide it here on my blog that (almost) no one ever reads.

So there it is.
Another Pieceocast.
I hope you enjoy it.
If you do, please tell a friend 😉
