As announced last time this will be the last mix i release for public consumption. Because reasons.
This one has been an unfinished project for many years, since 2007 to be precise.
The plan was to release it for 1312 day. You know. Even more so because this year 13.12. fell on a Friday the 13. We all agree that would have been an awesome release date.
But i wasn’t quite ready.
Today is the winter solstice. So that works for me as well.
Happy winter solstice to everyone.
On this the darkest day and longest night of the year maybe we can use a bit of kinky cheer. Especially since that dreadful “holiday” with its family cheer imperativ is coming up in a few days. For me as an ex-pagan, ex-wiccan, ex-buddhist, ex-atheist and all around anti-christian these are some of the worst days of the year.
Abolish the nuclear family! Enjoy XXXmess.

Moving on.
As mentioned above, this mix is number third in a three part series made with only sexually explicit music.
Hence the change in my DJ moniker from the usual Selectah J to Selectah XXX.
Please keep in mind that this series is just a bit of fun, please take it with a grain of salt. I hope that the humor will always be apparent.
The first in the series slowhumpah was released in 2005 and centered around hip hop tracks. The second HardBangah was published in 2006 and based in the house/techno/electro spectrum. The final one, KinkyGrindah, musically goes all over the shop, wide range, as they say, it features bits of pop, disco, punk, rock, soul, hip hop, but also all over the gender and sexual spectrum. Towards the end it does veer into four to the floor territory and the discothèque.
Let me hasten to add, i am today no longer proud of the first two mixes in this series, because of content as well as for technical reasons. They are quite heteronormative. Some transitions are pretty sloppy. But oh well, i can’t change the past.
For this last mix i wanted to correct these wrongs. Back in 2007 i had started a list of rock and pop songs for a third and final mix, but i somehow managed to lose that piece of paper. In the end, i was quite happy to go even more wide range, not just rock and pop.
In many ways it feels absurd, and almost a bit desperate, to create a sex-positive mix in these times, during an ongoing pandemic, when our own sex lives, because of the pandemic and poor health, have been transformed and our own promiscuous days have been relegated to the past. For me personally physical sex is now painful. Our immuno-compromised bodies no longer allow us to take any risks. In all things sexual safety and health always go first.
Maybe, then, the reason to release such a mix now, is because the future of sexuality, at least for some us, and myself very much included, might need to delve into virtual forms. Like listening to music as one safe form of exploring our sex-positivity. Or maybe online sex circles?! Complicated, i know. But i would be game.
In other ways, it not only feels absurd but outright wrong to release a sexually explicit mix in these times, when we experience such a huge backlash against all things sex-positive, a time when misogyny, toxic masculinity, anti-lqbtqi+ anti-trans sentiments seem to dominate the discourse. A time when a convicted sexual abuser (who as well suspect has committed even worse transgressions) is on the verge of moving back into the white house (how the fuck could this happen?!?). A time when the Pelicot case has us all shivering in disgust. A time with Diddy, Epstein and the list goes on and on.
But maybe it could be argued, that exactly because of such reactionary trends it is important to celebrate healthy, consent driven forms of sex-positivity.
Music can always be turned off. If you are not in the mood, skip.
I believe, we cannot give up on sex-positivity. Yes, we need to have discussions about gender and sexual stereotypes, about objectification and normative thinking. I admit the first two mixes in the series were problematic in part. And for that reason alone i needed to finish the series with a third mix with a much less heteronormative vibe. We also cannot minimize the real dangers of porn and sex addiction.
But there is nothing wrong with sex, per se. Between consenting adults many wonderful sexual experiences are possible, lots of fun can be had. In fantasy much is allowed, even attitudes that we normally condemn, and for good reason. The same can be said for role playing.
Sexually marginalized communities are known to create strong networks of support that are difficult to find elsewhere. To only name here, the BDSM community keeps playing a crucial role in the advancement of the practices of consent and boundaries in sex play.
I, for one, am convinced that sex positivity is now more important than ever, especially during scary times like these. If only as a direct counter punch against the reactionary, judgemental, het- & cis-normative repression, with its attempt to throw us back to the 50s in the last century.
To that i say: Hell no. 😈
Peaches will forever be my idol, when it comes to sex positivity and music. Which is why i was glad i find her interview with Jake Shears. As they point out in the interview a lot of sex-positive music has been released in these recent years, from WAP to Kim Petras to even Billie Eilish. Much of it during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
So maybe, just maybe, we’re onto something?
