The Consent of the (Un)governed – ““Freedom” is just another word for being under the thumb of a powerful white man — for now.” Let’s change it. We got this.

#watch,

Milena Patagônia – MP EP – Teaser film for a new EP by this talented musician from Bern.

IDENTITÄT BRAUCHT ERINNERUNG | Rocco and his brothers – “Danke AfD. Danke Deutschland!” Stolpersteine.

Paul McCartney Rabbit Hole – Swedemason – “A bit of Scouse House.”

Trump vs Talking Heads – Swedemason – “Once in Trump’s lifetime…” This remix made some people really unhappy, especially some people who for some reason really liked the song.

Car Plays the Violin – “My car is playing violin for the first time.” The question remains, why would a car want to play the violin.

Elsa Dorlin – Se défendre, une philosophie de la violence 3/5 – “Vigilantisme, super-héros et colonialité du pouvoir” Can’t wait to read her book.

Punching nazis videos:

Solecast: Kill The Activist In Your Head w/ Scott Crow – “Scott is a long time organizer and activist and is best known as a co-founder of the Common Ground Relief Effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrine. Common Ground is the subject of his seminal book, “Black Flags & Windmills.” His upcoming book “Setting Sights” is available for pre-order now on PM Press.”

Caroline Polachek Clarifies Moogfest Response – “Caroline Polachek, formerly of Chairlift, has clarified her reasoning for pulling out of Moogfest after being ‘furious’ over decision to place her on line-up specifically labeled as featuring ‘female, transgender, and non-binary’ artists” “Gender is not a genre. I don’t need a sympathy pedestal, esp from a male curator.” Right on.

This Artist Is Using Drone Music to Help People With Anxiety and Depression – “Kristel Jax’s drone therapy combines personal stories about mental health and drone music.” I hate drones and I hate therapy, but I guess this might be a useful combination somehow.

Accused VC Sends Same Sorry Sexual Harassment Email to Critics – “Chou found the email “almost plausibly repentant,” but suspected it was written by a crisis communications firm.” Oh, the things money can buy. And the things it can’t.

Bitcoin’s insane energy consumption, explained – “While Bitcoin may not be a total environmental disaster, the Earth would certainly be a greener place if the Bitcoin network didn’t consume so much electricity to process a relatively small number of transactions.” Buttcoin can fuck off.

Psychotherapy — a system of gimmicks! – “I discovered that despite the uniqueness of each client and their conceptualization of and experience with a variety of symptoms, I really only ever heard and helped treat a handful symptoms and disorders. It became obvious to me that the prevalence and pattern of depression, anxiety, social phobia, panic, and substance abuse in the United States constitutes a larger and more systemic social problem.” Psychotherapy serves only to create functioning participants in a dysfunctional system. Better get rid of the system.

Is Eric Cantona an Existentialist? — Illustrated Philosopher – “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.” [via nerdcore]

Neil Young Archives – Hours and hours of music to be streamed here. Almost the entire back catalogue of Neil Young.

Anti-Racism Activist Jane Elliott Will Never Stop Fighting – “Jane Elliott was teaching elementary school in Riceville, Iowa, in 1968 when Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee. In thinking about how to convey the enormity of what happened and why to her all-white class of third graders, she put together a lesson that would help students understand the killing—and the virulent and systemic racism behind it—on a personal level.” What an inspiring lady. Contains an excellent book list.

How white engineers built racist code – and why it’s dangerous for black people – “As facial recognition tools play a bigger role in fighting crime, inbuilt racial biases raise troubling questions about the systems that create them” Yes. Code can be racist. Sexist as well. Re-code.

I love my country so I need to say: Britain, you’re being an idiot over Brexit – “Personally, I love my country in the same way that I love members of my family: for no particular reason other than that we happen to be part of each other. I am fond of its foibles and tolerant of its idiosyncrasies and disappointed by its minor cruelties and moments of self-deceit. But more than anything else, I consider it my right as well as my duty to let it know, as I would let anyone I really loved know, when it’s being a bloody idiot.” Do tell them. Will it stop anyone though?

Where is the off switch if there is no off switch?

What I don’t understand, why does this guy behave like the most elitist, arrogant prick on twitter?

Zur Verteidigung der Wissenschaften | Aufruf – “Unterzeichnen Sie jetzt den Aufruf. Zur Verteidigung der Wissenschaften und der Demokratie.” This is what it has come to…

There are some interesting thoughts here, mostly that there can’t be a clear answer when it comes to antifa and violence. We have to learn to live with the ambivalence. The one question that interests me most however is not adressed. Why now? Why now, when we witness a resurgence of right wing politics, when fascist violence is on the rise, why in such times suddenly Antifa gets built up as the new bogey man. The timing should make us more than suspicious. To reduce Antifa to the violence question serves only one purpose, to legitimize them by ignoring all the other valuable work that they do, research, prevention, information. In these times, I do not need to formulate my critique, I just want to express my fundamental solidarity. #DankeAntifa

The point of view of ex right wingers is really helpful, especially with this level of honesty and self-reflection.

Die smarte Stadt neu denken – “Wie urbane Technologien demokratisiert werden können” News study by Evgeny Morozov and Francesca Bria available as a free pdf download.
