Title: OK Doomer – Now Sprinkled With Even More Gloom

A see-through suitcase filled with silly toys
Doomed if we do. Doomed if we don’t

I worked on this mix for an absurd amount of time. Pretty much ever since Mark Stewart died back in April, and after i had discovered his remix of one of my favorite bands, The Beatnigs. So that’s how it got started, but then it took me forever. I do need to work slow, because i can handle loud music on my headphones only for short periods. Sound, light, vibrations, smells – they all hurt so much now.

In the end, i worked on this mix for such a long time, that i completely forgot that i had already named my previous mix “OK Doomer”. A gaffe, kind of hilarious, but also embarrassing. But that’s what’s up at the moment. I forget everything. I read books, a week later everything is forgotten. I watch series on tv, a week later everything is gone, poof.

However. Since doom is the mood of the time, no possibility to find another name. Everything is going to shit. The wars. Fascism winning everywhere. Climate breaking points. Refugees left to die in oceans and deserts. The anti-feminist backlash rampant. The discourse getting polarized to the point of toxicity. And so much more.

Also, OK Doomer still is my favorite blog, i am still a boomer, doing silly DJ mixes and i would still much rather be called a doomer than a boomer. I briefly considered to call it something ridiculous like “super mega mini mix” or “extended mix”? Or maybe “OK Doomer bis”? “OK Doomer the encore”? Nah, too pretentious. So OK Doomer it is, now with even more gloom sprinkled on top.

Forgetting everything sucks though, i would like it very much to get my mental abilities back. Ugh. I have aged so much in these past 3 and a half years, my mental abilities seem to be in sharp decline. I also think my hearing might no longer be good enough to make mix tapes for the world. If they sound awful, please do let me know. Please tell me to stop.

Should you be worried?

Absolutely you should.

But not about me.

About the state of the world, very much so.

We must call this out. Like that strange person at the end of the mix says:

“You can call me a doomer.
You can even call me gloomy.
Whatever, dude, I don’t care

The world is fucked up, so i will call it exactly that, fucked up.

Only after we named things the way they actually are, can we start to move on.

Only after we understand how truly fucking doomed we are, can we start over, can we begin our collective grieving process, can we begin to build our radical communal care structures based on solidarity as a mutual aid practice.

The world is fucked up
Let us call it that.
And then we can start to un-fuck it.”

It’s okay, this is the second, ok doomer the second

So there it is, another pieceocast.
I hope you enjoy it.
If you do, please tell a friend 😉

PS: Sadly bandcamp has turned into a bit of a problem during the making of this mix. I am still linking to it, for now, but we will have to look for an alternative soon, it seems.
PS2: I know, i know, i know, you are never supposed to mix together two songs by the same artist. But that was another gaffe, i confused June 2019 Scene was this Aphex Twin track. OMG.
